Complexity and Chaos of Civilization

People (including myself) tend to say something like: this is good, this is bad, this thing is a good idea, this is a bad idea. However, nothing is so simple, and sometimes the most evil things can lead to better things in the future that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.

When you really start to look at things, acts start to seem neutral, since it’s impossible to see all the outcomes of an act. There are just too many moving parts and too many interactions.

I think all of this chaos has to be directed by wise & inspired people. Otherwise everything tends to pain and destruction, which seems to be the lot of humanity.

What’s even more difficult, is should we really attempt to control chaos? Like for example, I’m horrified by things like Facebook, Google, all the corporations shifting everyone around, all the environmental destruction. But, might all this be leading to some future thing that is ultimately very good, but couldn’t be predicted today? For example, what if all this money is enabling a small group of people to see something very new, that otherwise wouldn’t be possible? What if this future group of people is going to create a vastly superior way of life?

Also, it’s impossible to really measure any of this stuff in the future, since we don’t know about it. At best, people can only guess that something in the future will be good or bad.

So much of life actually seems to be haphazard, so for example, everyone liking Windows 95 and Facebook, so giving billions to two people who then get to shape the world in the way they want. This wasn’t done with a lot of thinking, it’s almost like gambling & just random. None of this seems good or bad, it just seems like a roll of the dice, putting people in charge who do something that inspires all of humanity. Is everyone aware this is how things work when people are rewarded with money? Was this intentional from the start?
