Counterculture is always a trap
Hippies, bohemians, romanticism, grunge, hip hop
All of these groups were created by elites, and were commercialized and made the dominant culture right after their creation. The groups never existed to overthrow the system, instead they diverted attention and energy into the system.
Superficial aspects are always a trap:
- Music, tattoos, and artwork are easily copied and commercialized. Today you’re weird if you don’t have a tattoo. Everyone has an electric guitar. People don’t care about the context or purpose, they just want the outward look of something, since you don’t have to change your thinking and just order something online.
- LSD and smoking pot are so mainstream, that all the billionaires are actively encouraging it. This was always just a superficial aspect, it was used to create more corporate products and to make the population dumb.
- Things like mindfulness, Zen, and yoga are corporate tools. They tell people to turn to this stuff to relax, so that they’ll be well rested for their corporate job. All of this came from the 60s hippie movement
- The fitness and exercise craze of the 1960s is so dominant that if you don’t exercise, you’re a weirdo and an outsider for not going to the gym or doing something with the fitness industry.
- The organic foods movement is now one of the largest corporate trends, available at all major retailers. It’s now primarily a rich person thing, but also available widely since many items aren’t that much more expensive. All the elites have promoted organic and natural foods, the whole thing was always a trap.
- Costume means nothing. Just look how all the costumes of the groups have all become the mainstream. Just type in boho clothing on Etsy. Look how big streetwear has been since the 90s. Athleisure is probably the most dominant trendy clothing, coming from the health & fitness movements originating with Gypsy Boots & the 1960s fitness trends
- Although not really counterculture, religions appeal to people by giving them the aesthetics that the people come to expect. So you have a temple building, priestly costume, musical instruments, paintings, statues, etc.
