I’ll give people a pass who decide to join a religion before age 25. They may have no idea what they’re getting involved with, and young people try different things out. But when you have someone who is more like 40 and they’re interested in religion, this is a sign they’re screwed up in the head. Often religion is just another way they’re coping with their own mental issues. People are too nice to religious converts, instead this should be seen as a cry for help or them trying to deal with other issues in an unhealthy way.
There are a lot of unstable people out there. They’ll have a chaotic or selfish life, only to “turn to God” at some point after they get burned out. These people need mental help. All the churches eat it up, they talk about repentance and turning from their life of sin. The churches are glad to scoop up all these broken people, but for a cost of course.
Instead of getting therapy or just slowing down, these people bounce from bad idea to bad idea. They should just be alone or getting therapy, not joining a cult.
