North Idaho (Inland NW) Groups & Conservatives
The Idaho Panhandle has been a refuge for conservatives and religious minorities for decades. The land used to be relatively cheap, it was far from major cities, and homeschooling & vaccine laws are extremely lax. After waves of conservatives moved here, even more moved to the area. Some notable groups:
- Ruby Ridge (standoff in 1992 led to national news)
- Doug Wilson and New Saint Andrews College are in Moscow, ID
- Francis Schuckardt and Fatima Crusade of 1970s
- Aryan Nations had a compound in Hayden Lake in the 1970s
- Writer Michael Hoffman lives in Coeur d, Alene
- FLDS (polygamous Mormons) live in Boundary County on the border of British Columbia
